Tour: The Ecological History of Marine Park

  • Marine Park Seba Ave. and Gerritsen Ave. Brooklyn (map)

Natural Areas of Jamaica Bay: 2019 Tour Series

Join Natural Areas Conservancy staff and Mike Feller, Ecologist and Chief Naturalist of the New York Botanical Garden, for a natural history tour of Brooklyn’s largest park, Marine Park. The tour will follow a newly formalized 3-mile loop trail through the park’s 133 acre natural area. You’ll learn about the natural history of the site, the flora and fauna that live there, and the history of human use that has shaped the area — from Native American and Dutch settlement, to the transformation of the landscape in the 20th century from a wetland to a peninsula.

Please meet at the model airplane field located behind the playground at Seba Ave. and Gerritsen Ave.

The tour will last approximately 2 hours. Please wear appropriate footwear for a walk, and bring enough water to stay hydrated.
