Join naturalist and Jamaica Bay Guardian, Don Riepe and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy for a guided walk to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge’s East and West Ponds, hotspots for migratory birds. Discover how Jamaica Bay supports hundreds of bird species, and search for ospreys, herons, shorebirds, songbirds, and more. In honor of Earth Day, we’ll celebrate the legacy of community-driven advocacy that has led to a resurgence of wildlife in Jamaica Bay, and visit the recently completed living shoreline resiliency project in West Pond. The living shoreline is a nature-based climate resiliency solution, which protects the pond and loop trail from erosion and storm surge while adding nine acres of natural habitat to the Bay.

Meet outside the front entrance of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Please wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and dress in layers. We will be walking approximately 1.5 miles. Binoculars recommended!
