Cleanup at Riis Beach

  • Riis Beach 167-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard Queens, NY, 11694 United States (map)

Bring your energy (and your halloween costume!) for a fun day of care for our shoreline. The cleanup will be led by Sapphic Surf, a queer surf collective, and Riis Beach Bloc Association, with support from Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy.

All are welcome—come celebrate community, show your spirit, and help keep Riis Beach beautiful!

This event will start with an ice breaker and group stretching, led by Añes, one our our 2025 Wetlands Fellows. We’ll end the cleanup with an optional plunge into the water! If you decide to go in the water, we recommend you bring a towel or hoodie to wear after.

JBRPC will provide pickers, water, and trash bags. Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate outerwear. The event is rain or shine.

The meeting point is near the bus entrance and Spectro Hot Dog Stand, right by Bay 1 against fence with the Miss Colombia Memorial, at 167-02 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Neponsit, NY

JBRPC Community Stewardship Programs are generously supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Con Edison, NYC Green Fund, and NYC Ferry, operated by Hornblower, and public funding through NY Senator Roxanne Persaud, Assemblymembers Stacey Pheffer-Amato and Jaime R. Williams, NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Majority Whip Selvena Brooks-Powers, and Council Members Joann Ariola and Mercedes Narcisse.
